Parentheses - noun, plural
Parentheses are often used in conjunction with the construct, "btw" and its variants to frame the speaker's opinion as fact.
Example - When an inexperienced player in Mechwarrior gets his ass handed to him six times in a row by a Supernova, he is likely to type the following or a variant of it: "Dude you're so gay! (Supernovas are for noobs btw)"
In that scenario, the inexperienced player's opinion is that the Supernova requires no skill. However, he frames his opinion as fact, which is a blatant perversion of proper logical argument.

Democracy - noun, singular
1) Democracy is the top U.S. export to foreign countries. It has a high failure rate, but it comes with a lifetime military-backed warranty against anything undemocratic.
2) Democracy is often used in conjunction with "freedom" and its variants to imply the speaker's unrestricted thought and therefore intelligence.
3) Democracy is a means to give the majority of people what they want, usually regardless of whether or not what they want conflicts with what they need.
4) Democracy is a testing ground for social Darwinism. The smart people want what they need, and when they get it, they succeed. The dumb people want what they don't need, and may go broke.
